Holler: common questions
Holler does not find my speaker
- Make sure the phone and the speaker are on the same Wi-Fi network. Holler only looks on the network the phone is on, and the Talk button stays disabled until the phone is on Wi-Fi.
- Check that Holler has the Local Network permission: Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network, Holler. Without it, discovery cannot see anything.
- Some routers isolate wireless devices from each other ("AP isolation" or "guest network"). Speakers on an isolated network cannot be reached.
The button is there but nothing plays
- Holler needs the Microphone permission: Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone, Holler. If the microphone produces silence, Holler stops the holler and tells you, rather than playing an empty clip.
- For an AirPlay speaker, route the phone to it first with the iOS output picker. Holler talks through the current output.
- For a Bluetooth speaker, connect it in Settings first. Holler lists the speaker the phone is connected to.
Do I need a Sonos account?
No. Holler talks to Sonos speakers directly over your network. Connecting a Sonos account is optional; it lets the speaker lower and then resume what it was playing instead of interrupting it. You can disconnect the account at any time from the speaker list.
Does my voice leave my home?
No. Audio goes from the phone to the speaker over your own network and is not sent to us or stored after the holler ends. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I start a holler without unlocking the phone?
Assign Holler to the Action button, or say "Hey Siri, Holler", or add the Holler action to a Shortcut. Each starts a holler to your usual speaker. Tap the Talk button once to stop.
Something crashed or failed
Holler sends an anonymous crash report on the next launch, so we usually see it. If you can tell us what you were doing, email us with the time it happened and we will match it up.
